Our Story

Why ABAAD Was Founded

ABAAD: Afghan Women Forward was established in response to the growing humanitarian and structural challenges facing Afghan women and girls. As poverty deepened and access to education, protection, and livelihoods became increasingly restricted, the need for women-centered and community-based support became more urgent than ever.

Responding to the Needs of Afghan Women

Following the events of 2021, many Afghan women and girls were cut off from formal education, employment, and essential services. Vulnerable families and survivors of gender-based violence were among those most affected, often facing severe hardship with limited access to meaningful support. ABAAD was founded to help fill this gap by providing both immediate humanitarian assistance and longer-term opportunities for education, skills development, and self-reliance.

Building Programs for Long-Term Impact

Over time, this mission evolved into ABAAD’s three core program areas: Humanitarian Assistance, Empower Afghan Girls Together (EAGT), and Cycle of Development. Together, these programs reflect ABAAD’s commitment to protecting dignity, expanding opportunity, and supporting Afghan women and girls in building safer, more resilient futures.
